BIOGRAPHY
Patrick Dodd is a native of France, born to an African-American father and a French mother.
His career as a painter started in France in the late 1980s, influenced and guided by
painter D. B., and inspired by French painter Jean Dubuffet (1901-1985). He began to exhibit in
Paris, in the early 1990Ős. In 1991, Dodd immigrated to the United States to reunite with his
father. He moved to Ann Arbor, MI where he earned his B.A, M.A and Ph.D.
(Title of Dissertation:
Le Mythe Nègre: Idéologie de la race, de la sexualité et de l'immobilité on the work of Haitian-Québecois novelist Dany Laferrière)
at the University of Michigan.
His study of literature has helped him take his painting in new directions.
Patrick Dodd lives in New York City, where he continues to work as a studio artist today.
